Tim, my partner, lover and coconspirator suddenly died in August 2022. With grief now at the centre of my life, I am compelled to shift the focus of my creative practice from storytelling through shapes and colours, to creating a love letter legacy of human connection by use of true words shared, spoken and said.
Loss of the main witness to the most intimate part of my life is physically, and emotionally devastating. While there is no cure for how I am feeling, in bringing my love and grief to the surface in the form of art, I am determined to turn this tragic moment into something positive, for me, Tim, for others who grieve, for the wider artistic community and audiences.
In creating emotionally led work, and by publicly sharing my therapeutic journey - via articles, films, and the media - I want to process and grow around my grief creatively; and interest, inspire, and help others. In creating space for engagement and connection, I aim to prompt meaningful conversations about the universal, yet taboo, themes of acknowledging complicated feelings, mental health, trauma, loss, and grief.
Much of my and Tim’s interaction was via digital messages, communicating at a cerebral level. These conversations: ones of love, emotional intelligence, wit, and intellect are compelling, and following his death; now bittersweet. Beginning with an online art project, a blog and embroidery; I intend to turn these words into something visual, tangible, and lasting, accumulating in a public exhibition that will also act as a memorial for Tim.
In embarking on this art project, I will:
How can you help?
Human connection is the foundation of this artwork, I want to connect with individuals, businesses, organisations, charities, media and podcasters to tell my story and join me in this important conversation. I am looking for help to promote the journey; partners, funding, and to secure an exhibition space. If you would like to connect or know others that would then please email me katrinarusselladams@gmail.com
